Ford Moves European Production to Russia

Who knew Ford commanded such a strong presence in Russia? That's right, apparently the Motherland is quite impressed with the American automaker, and we here at York Ford think that it speaks quite highly of the quality that is put into every new Ford model that the company produces.

Specifically, the Ford Explorer and Ford Transit Connect are two big sellers overseas. So much so, in fact that Ford has decided to move the production of their European variants to Russia. The sales numbers back this notion up, as nearly 2.7-million units have been sold so far in 2011, which is quite a bit more than the Association of European Businesses prediction of 2.45 million. In fact, this latest sale figure marks a 30 percent increase from 2009 to 2011.

Ford is using these sales numbers as a key reason to not only move production to Russia, but also to increase the number of vehicles that we actually produced as well. Furthermore, Russia plans to provide government financial incentives towards hybrids in order to lessen the country's dependence of fossil fuels. Ford is currently set to begin production of Ford Transit vans and Ford Explorers at Former Soller factories in 2012.
