Ford Creates Motion-Sensing Liftgate for 2013 Escape

The all-new 2012 Ford Escape is about as close to an automotive masterpiece as you can get. The American-made, compact SUV features a wide range of benefits that consumers will love, but in 2013, the vehicle is getting one more upgrade that could put it on the path to becoming an industry game-changer.
More specifically, we here at York Ford are talking about the addition of a motion-sensing liftgate to the Escape. The vehicle's liftgate is able to operate based on gestures performed by the operator, rather than lifting the hatch open manually, similar in a way to a motion-sensing videogame. To open the gate, users simply perform a kicking motion under the vehicle's bumper, while closing it requires nothing more than a swing of the foot past the sensor below the bumper.
Jason Spawka, Brand Manager, Ford Escape explains, "The hands-free power liftgate is yet another innovative Ford technology that makes customers' lives easier. New Escape owners will be able to load their vehicle without ever having to set packages or gear down."1
Personally, however, we think that the true benefit of this innovation comes in the form of fewer strained backs and inconveniences due to hands being full. Another benefit is the fact that Ford put so much effort into designing the motion sensor to be used in the liftgate's system. It reacts to and only to the aforementioned motions, so no small animals or balls passing under the sensor can trip it.
Of course, if you're the old-fashioned type, who likes to manually open your doors, we won't hold it against you. In fact, the current Ford Escape features a mechanically-sound manual liftgate and every other feature there is to love about a new Ford model. It can be taken for a test drive at 1481 Broadway, Route 1 South Saugus, MA 01906 simply by contacting us online or by phone at (888) 874-0636 today.
We're ready and happy to answer any questions that you may have concerning specific models, such as the Ford Ranger, Ford Fusion Hybrid, and Ford Mustang, as well as the great lineup of used Ford models that we carry too.
