The Ford Ranger has been one of the best selling light pickup trucks over the past 20 years. Now, Ford reports their successful pickup was tops for truck sales in April 2010, in fact it topped most of Ford's other vehicles.
Ford's sales numbers for April 2010 were 25 percent higher than a year earlier. This is a huge deal for Ranger, a vehicle so well liked that Ford hasn't seen a need to extensively update the vehicle since 2001.
Ranger remains the second best-selling small truck in its class. It's also the No. 7 best-selling pickup in the country, and its year-to-date sales are up almost 11 percent.
2010 marks the final year for Ranger - Ford has said the likely replacement for the truck is a more fuel-efficient version of the F-150 instead of a domestic version of Ford's upcoming all-new Ranger global pickup, which shares only its name with the current U.S. Ranger.
2010's Ford Ranger is also the most fuel efficient small truck in America - with an EPA-estimated fuel economy at 21 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway.
Ranger comes equipped with a 2.3-liter I-4 engine capable of large towing capacity and a quick start-up time.
Ford added an all new Stability Control system to their 2010 Ranger, "The 2010 Ranger's Roll Stability Control and combination side air bag technologies will help occupants stay out of harm's way," said Steve Kozak, chief engineer of safety systems, Ford Motor Company.
"The Ranger has been America's most fuel-efficient pickup, and now it features a combination of safety features not offered in any other small pickup."
