What Happened To The Ford Taurus X

During the mid-2000's Ford had plans to produce a new type of wagon. After the success of their Ford Taurus and Taurus Wagons back in the 1990's - the American Auto Maker decided to go with "Taurus X" as this concept's nameplate.

The car had a size comparable to crossover vehicles of today, but was built years before auto companies began working with "crossovers." The vehicle used the Ford D3 platform, which it shared with the Ford Five Hundred, Mercury Montego, and various Volvos.

There was a bit of confusion when Taurus X came out in 2005 - Was it a car or a truck, SUV or something else? It was built on a large car chassis, but during its first production year was nominated as "North American Truck of the Year" at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

Taurus X ran on a 3.0 L (181 cu in) Duratec V6, with an output of 203 hp (151 kW) at 5750 rpm. The car could easily fit up to 5, but 7 could be squished in thanks to extra rear seating.

Ford kept the Taurus X nameplate from 2005 until 2007. It was then switched to Freestyle, only to be rebranded Taurus X again in 2008. This new wagon design was left behind by Ford in 2009, in favor of the then upcoming (and highly anticipated) 2010 Ford Taurus sedan.

In the end, Taurus X was a dependable Ford produced, with great horsepower, fuel economy and room for the entire family.
